Kia unveils its 2020 Soul at the Los Angeles Auto Show

Kia Unveils its 2020 Soul at the Los Angeles Auto Show

Iconic in its soul, this Kia doesn’t need any introduction. It’s a compact crossover that is already at its 3rd generation since 2008. It is mainly characterize by its square design to which no one can be indifferent. Many drivers have adopted it for its utilitarian aspects, others for its audacious appearance.

The Korean manufacturer took advantage of its presence at the LA Auto Show at the end of November to show its new 2020 reinvented Soul. The new model has undergone a major rejuvenation process and now comes in 3 different versions.

The Sporty, the Rugged and the Electrifying

Kia presented 3 models for its 2020 Soul: GT-Line, X-Line and EV.

As indicated by its name, the GT-Line proposes sporting looks and specifications. A 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine makes this compact crossover roar. The engine provides 201 HP and 195 lb. ft. of torque. Add to that a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In comparison, the base model offers 147 HP and 132 lb. ft. of torque, and is available with a manual 6-speed transmission or the new IVT.

On the electronics side of things, the GT-Line offers the first tactile 10.25 inches screen from Kia and a Harmon Kardon premium audio system for music lovers. The smart connected UVO services and wireless charging are also part of this model.

It is most likely its design that will retain the most attention. Entirely redesigned, it shows an aggressive and young radiator grill, and new LED headlights and fog lights. The taillights will also certainly impress you!

The X-Line, on the other hand, is inspired by the urban vehicles meant for outdooring. Its exterior is covered with plastic on the sides and rails on the roof, which contribute to its rugged design. We really liked these new little touches providing a very SUV look. However, it is with deep regrets that we learned that it won’t be available with all-wheel drive.

The very electrifying EV did not say its final word. We find under its hood a new 64 kWh liquid cooled battery (polymer lithium-ion) with DC fast charging capability. In comparison with the 2019 model, it’s 34 more kWh. The manufacturer didn’t advance any battery lifetime stats, but we can expect a very good upgrade over last year’s model.

With state-of-the-art technology, the 2020 Soul EV offers an electric engine providing 201 HP and 291 lb. ft. of torque. It is designed to be adaptative and versatile, that’s why it will be equipped with every smart system we can expect from a Kia vehicle.

Concerning its esthetics, it shares with its counterparts the new LED lights design, front and back, and new lightweight 17-inches alloy wheels that contribute to its aerodynamism.

The 2020 Soul: Evolutive and Reinvented

It is not yet available and we already love it! The 2020 Soul should make its debut on the Canadian’s market in Spring 2019, but we will know the exact date at the beginning of next year. Be prepared for an all-new adventure!

For the impatient, you should really come meet us at Complexe Kia in Pointe-aux-Trembles, near Longueuil and Repentigny, to test drive a 2019 Kia Soul or even a 2019 Kia Soul EV. You won’t be disappointed!
